Minister Milupi Inspired with Mass Housing Development in Abuja

Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development Minister, Hon. Eng. Charles Milupi, MP, has commended the Federal Government of Nigeria for the technical and financial support rendered to the Federal Housing Authority ((FHA) for the mass construction of 748 units of various house types in the Zuba Mass Housing Project,

Hon. Milupi said the provision of seed money and land resulted in the construction of affordable mass housing especially for the lower income earners. The houses are sold on rent to own basis or outright purchase. The proceeds of the sales are being re-invested into the construction of more affordable houses in other parts of the city and country.

The Minister was speaking when he toured the Zuba Mass Housing Project in Abuja, Nigeria in the company of Ms. Waicha Ndhlovu, Chief Executive Officer of National Housing Authority and Mr. Mabuchi Chilembo, Director Housing Development in the Ministry of Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development, where he is attending the 42nd Annual General Meeting and Symposium of Shelter Afrique.

“He said the houses are reasonably affordable and meet the basic standards of decent affordable and sustainable homes. The model can be replicated country wide in Zambia by National Housing Authority who should perform as lead in the provision of mass housing and thereby reducing the housing deficit”.

The Zuba Mass Housing Project covers a total of 18.05 hectares of land area. It consists of 748 housing units of various houses in 75 blocks of flats with bulk support infrastructure facilities of electricity, water, sewer, roads and drainage. The project is a mixed development including social amenities such as Churches, Schools, health center, police office and recreation facilities among others.
