Zambia’s High Commissioner to Nigeria Dr. Solomon S. JERE on 15th December, 2015, presented letters of credence to the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Muhammadu BUHARI. In his remarks during the presentation ceremony, President BUHARI welcomed Dr. JERE and called for greater bilateral relations on economic development between the two (2) countries. He said that there was untapped potential in the two countries that required to be fully harnessed to foster economic growth.
In response, Dr. JERE conveyed fraternal greetings to President BUHARI from His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Mr. Edgar Chagwa LUNGU. He said that he would work to ensure that the existing relations between the two (2) countries were strengthened further in all areas of cooperation. In this context, Dr. JERE stated that the confidence that Zambia has in the Nigerian Government could not be over emphasized and that Nigeria had remained a true ally in the quest for development of the continent.
Added to this, Dr. JERE informed the Nigerian President that Zambia had shifted her focus from political to economic diplomacy. In this connection, he stated that the Zambian Government appreciated the investments made in Zambia by Nigerian companies. He cited the investment put up by Dangote Industries in the production of cement and also, the investment in the financial sector that had continued to grow. He said that this was a clear testimony of the continued warm relations between Nigeria and Zambia. In the same vein, Dr. JERE said that Zambia still had a vast array of untapped investment opportunities in the tourism, mining, agricultural and energy sectors, among others.
